THE HEIMANNS
The Heimann Family
The Heimann family has been for years, one the leading red wine producers of Hungary. Zoltán and Ágnes Heimann returned to the agricultural past of the family. Their elder son, Zoltán Jr. joined them after his studies in Germany, France and Italy. Heimanns have been a mainspring in the development of the Szekszárd region.
Zoltán Heimann Sr. recieved the following prestigious awards: in 2011 European Wine Expert of the Year in Baden-Württemberg, in 2017 Wino Magazine Person of the Year in Poland and in 2023 Winemaker’s Winemaker of the Year in Hungary.
Organic viticulture
Ever since I started studying viticulture, I wanted to go into organic farming. Yet it took a long time to get the team together and believe that we could do it.
We have been doing organic experiments since 2014, using no herbicides or fertilizers. 2019 was the first year we went organic on half of our vineyards, giving up the use of systemic pesticides. We harvested our first certified organic Kadarka, Kékfrankos and Viognier grapes in 2023. Starting 2025 our entire estate will be certified.
Our goal is to create a diverse vineyard instead of a monoculture: a habitat for insects, soil microbes, grapes, and a healthy place for us and our colleagues. After just a few years, the results are clearly visible in the vines and palpable in the richness of flavor and length of our wines.
My Parents’ Legacy
The first successes of our family business came with the cuvées. We build on widespread and exotic European varieties, as well as on the purity and elegance of our own Kékfrankos. Delicious, never excessive, good-to-drink – the wine’s style was developed by my mother and father, and we continue to refine it together.
Kadarka and Kékfrankos
This is Who I Am
My aim is to show the original values of Szekszárd in a novel, vibrant style. Viticulture optimised for outstanding grape quality and light-handed winemaking.
Szekszárd Terroir
The Heimann family’s vineyards are located on the first hills of the
Transdanubian Hills, also known as the Pannonian Hills.
The typical calcareous loess soils lead to ripe, soft fruits
with gentle tannins and delicate, yet not excessive, acidity.
